There is a series of books called Object Lessons where each book is focused on a different object. Many to choose from, and they are really well done. Check it out.

The *Very Short Introduction* series by the Oxford University Press covers pretty much every topic under the sun, written by a respected academic in their field
*A Short History of Nearly Everything* by Bill Bryson is an excellent book full of all kinds of stuff- geology, biology, physics, etc. All for layman.
There is also a series of books called Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader. They’re books of short 1-5 page stories, random quotes, random facts, interesting history stuff, and so much more. They do have themed ones, like Canada, National Parks, and several USA states, but most are just random stuff.

There’s a “History Of” series by Gale Eaton:
– History of Medicine in 50 Discoveries
– History of Ambition in 50 Hoaxes
– History of Civilization in 50 Disasters
