Hello,
Listen, I love cozy books that have the family-owned-apple-orchard, let’s organize a quilting bee type of feel. But almost everything I find that’s cute and cozy is a murder mystery, and I’m not here for it. I like my mysteries more gritty and noir, and my cozies to stay in a lane in a county far far away.
One of my favourite cozies is A City Baker’s Guide to Country Living by Louise Miller. I don’t need the ‘This needs 50% romance to be a Romance’ plot neither.
Do you know any cozy, ‘small town bake sale’ -type of chick lit or contemporary women’s fiction? Where can I find books like these? Please recommend some authors! And yes, I have read nearly all the cozy fantasy currently out there, Beck Chambers, Travis Baldree, etc.
Also, I like to keep things non-religious.

Maeve Binchy, perhaps?
A Half Built Garden by Ruthanna Emerys is great if you like that Becky Chambers vibe
The house in the cerulean sea
Romance-y but Jenny Colgan’s Little Beach St Bakery (it has a bakery, and an island, and a lighthouse, and a woman rebuilding her life after financial ruin, plus a pet puffin).
I Can’t Wait To Get To Heaven – Fannie Flagg (sweet old lady who got a glimpse of heaven, which was also quite nice)
The Mulberry Tree – Jude Devereaux (the mystery solved is someone’s past, the book is mainly about a smart, capable woman building her life back up in the country-side)
Flowers in the Rain – Rosamunde Pilcher (cozy short stories set in the fifties and sixties London countryside mostly; all the stories are set about five minutes before the characters meet and right as they become taken with one another)
Our Town
by Thornton Wilder
