First person female narrator, moody, gothic, open to romance, something like The Cloisters, etc, except it has good reviews

Looking for something moody and “dark” without being scary/horror. Wuthering Heights is the best example I can think of.

I’ve read Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Rebecca, Frankenstein etc, and I want something like that, but it can be modern/contemporary, it doesn’t have to be a classic. I’m in the mood for first person.

I sampled The Cloisters and I like the setting, premise, vibe, etc. Except I’ve seen it has a lot of bad reviews and I think I can safely guess I wouldn’t love it in the end.

I’m also a wimp so nothing too gruesome or scary, thanks!
