I am really nostalgic for YA, coming of age, fantasy like Tamora Pierce, Garth Nix, Diana Wynne Jones and The Chronicles of Prydain.
Specifically, I am missing the sometimes cosy vibes, the whimsy, the tight plots, the rich worlds. YA fantasy today feels so flimsy and romance focussed.
I’ve read Uprooted, and Spinning Silver as well as all of the Wayward Children books and Kristen Cashore books which are the closest modern comps I’ve found but still don’t quite scratch the itch…
Any suggestions?
