I’m currently ready The Histories by Herodotus for my Western Civilization class. My professor was going to have us read it in two weeks (I decided to start early) and warned it would be the hardest material we have all semester.
I’ve already started on the Iliad since we’ll be discussing it in class and my brother gifted me a copy of The Odyssey to read too. I did read one book to prep me for The Histories called “Herodotus: A Very Short Introduction” by Jennifer Roberts that provided a quick overview.
Are there any other companion works (preferably a little more modern if there’s any) to read along with The Histories that will help me to better understand it?
