For a 10 year old who doesn't love reading 😆 Kid loves spooky stuff, science, bugs, ghosts, funny stories. I really want to get her reading more but definitely don't want to force something that she will just end up hating reading. Thanks!

A Series of Unfortunate Events! It’s spooky, darkly comedic, and has really engaging mysteries! I was obsessed with it when I was a kid.
Comics, ripley’s believe it or not, joke books.
Are the Goosebumps books too outdated?
It’s older but I think she will love How to Eat Fried Worms by Thomas Rockwell.
– Holes and The Wayside school series by Louis Sachar.
– Coraline by Neil Gaiman
– I remember like Scary stories to tell in the dark but that was in the 90’s so not sure how well they hold up.
Sometimes reluctant readers really love non-fiction. Kid’s non-fiction for bugs and other animals are often graphic heavy and chunk the writing. This can feel much less overwhelming for a lot of kids, like this bug is cool. I’m just gonna read a little about its antennae, that wasn’t bad, I’ll just read a bit more about its legs, etc. etc.
Non-fiction books also use a ton of Tier 3 (highly specific/academic) vocabulary which is cool and may make other academic vocabulary less overwhelming in an, “I’m used to big words, they don’t scare me.” sort of way.
