I love books similar to The Devil Wears Prada, When Life Gives You Lululemons, and The Knockoff, which all feature twenty-something women trying to make it in NYC. However, I'm not a fan of about a third or more of the book that's a romance. Are there any books that are in that world, but have no romance. It would be even cooler if the protagonist was male.

It’s nonfiction, but *Very Important People: Status and Beauty in the Global Party Circuit* –by Ashley Mears (2020) is fascinating, though a bit repetitive, and fits your description. From my notes, “A sociologist explores the world of exclusive, expensive night clubs, at which huge amount of work is expended to enable the ostentatious, wasteful spending of money. The workers are the ‘promoters,’ constantly searching for and recruiting beautiful women whose visual appeal sets the tone of the clubs, and the women themselves, unpaid except for the free food, drink, and partying that’s part of the scene.”
