Hello, I would love to get some good recommendations for Dutch history books covering the development of the Netherlands or perhaps the Low Countries broadly. Something with a critical perspective would be nice, but anything well written and observed is fine.

The Burgundians – Bart van Loos
Charts the history of the Dukes of Burgundy in the Low Countries. I would say that it is mixed bag. I think it gave a really good insight into the dynasty, the relationship with France. It also explored how Ducal patronage impacted the Northern Renaissance. I thought it was poor on women’s history and considering how active and important the female members of this family were, that left a bad taste in the mouth.
