Hi, Reddit- I'm recovering from a minor surgery and recently rediscovered my love of reading. I'm looking for more books to devour while I rest and recover and try not to think about work.

I've been enjoying historical cozy mysteries (like the Lord Peter Wimsey series or the Brother Cadfael series).

I'm a big fan of middle grade fantasy, SF, horror, and historical fiction. I'm currently reading NO ONE LEAVES THE CASTLE by Christopher Healy; I love Diana Wynne Jones, Diane Duane, Phillip Pullman, John Bellairs, L. Frank Baum, Nancy Farmer, Rick Riordan…my tastes are all over the map.

I love adult fantasy/SF, but my tastes skew closer to Guy Gavriel Kay than Terry Brooks. I like worldbuilding that feels grounded, literate prose, worlds you can dive into and stay there. Faves include The Sarantine Mosaic, The Riddle-Master of Hed, The Once and Future King, and Too Like the Lightning.

I'd love recs for nonfiction that is interesting but not depressing- a grand scale survey of how people lived in a certain time period, a book about language/linguistics, or the history of something overlooked.

    Thanks, have a great day!!
