I want to read before going to sleep but am looking for a more bite sized experience than a novel. Also the novels I read, like Red Rising and Stormlight Archives, are too exciting for me to read before bed! So, ideally nothing too horror/disturbing.
I know like nothing about how to find good short stories as I’ve been super resistant to them before!
Any ideas?

The book I’ve read that really fits the bill here is Believing by Zenna Henderson. It’s old and hard to find, and not all of the stories are winners, but the ones that work always feel like a cozy blend of sci-fi and small town Americana. If you like the idea, maybe start by checking out “Something Bright,” one of the easier stories to find on its own, to see whether you like her style.
Ted Chiang has two collections, *Stories of Your Life and Others* (I think also reprinted as Arrival, after the film based on one of the stories), and *Exhalation*. I’m not too familiar with sci-fi, but I liked both. (I started reading one of his stories while looking for a Secret Santa gift and decided to buy a copy for myself as well).
