I recently discovered to AMAZING series set during the Hundred Years War between France & England. It's an incredible set of stories based on a common archer, Thomas Blackstone. Forced to join Edward III's army to keep him & his brother for being hanged for a murder they claim they had nothing to do with, the series follows Thomas & his deaf-mute brother to that 1st, fateful bloodbath that was the Battle of Crecey. Knighted for saving Edward, Prince of Wales, aka The Black Prince, this is a story about how a common archer became a knighted man-at-arms, how how he is forged into what becomes almost a living legend, Sir Thomas Blackstone. From his tutelage at the hands of a Norman nobleman who's care he was placed in after his horrible wounds, both mental & physical, almost killed him, to his love & marriage of his eventual wife. This series winds together actual events & people from history during a time when the style & manner of war in those days makes today's wars almost civil by comparison. If you're a fan of this period of history, as I am, the "Master of War" series is NOT TO BE MISSED!
