I have difficulty maintaining relationships. I like to talk with strangers but have trouble moving to friendships and partnership. It just wasn’t a behavior that was mirrored nor exampled for me. It wasn’t a problem in school where I could meander into friendships of convenience, but now as a 32 year old man, I have to work for friendship but I don’t know what work to do. It affects my finances too as I freelance, and network often for work, and don’t understand the basics of human relating.
So I’m looking for a book that can help me learn the rhythm and etiquette of relationships.
The caveat, I’ve read some books on friendship that were fluffy. These authors speak about becoming closer on fishing trips and “daring boldly” and a bunch of other things that sound good but don’t help when I see someone with a cool band shirt at the library.
I’d really like the basics and very clear messaging, as though I were neurodivergent and 12 years old.
Any suggestions?
