Hey all! I used to love reading but a few years ago I tried 3 separate occasions to get through a highly regarded book that just wasn't doing it for me, and when I gave up after the 3rd try I kind of lost my interest in reading altogether. I really want to get back into it but a lot of the popular books I see trending nowadays just really aren't my style.

I'll read almost anything; fantasy, science-fiction, horror/thriller, true crime; not really into super heavy romance books or non-fiction (aside from true crime). I want something a bit more mature than all the popular YA books, and I also don't mind if books have some romance plots/aspects in them (can be queer or not) but I don't want anything smutty.

Audiobooks! I have two little kids so reading during the day can’t happen and when I try at night I fall asleep. I can listen to a book on 1.75x speed when I’m getting ready in the morning or doing chores. I’ve blown through 25 books this year.

    2. I just finished The Husbands by Holly Gramazio and found it to be a very light but interesting read.

What was the book that turned you off from reading?

    3. Audio books are where it’s at. But for physical books have u tried The Martian? I was having a hard time reading again after a couple years not and for some reason could not put this book down.

Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel is one that I couldn’t put down.

Normal People by Sally Rooney is another one that most people I know really enjoyed.

    5. Frieda McFadden the housemaid is great as a fiction and mystery/thriller, I hear anything she writes is phenomenal but I haven’t gotten around to a second title yet to agree with it. Ward D is next on my list from her.

ACOTAR is pretty good, not too smutty (I’m also not a huge fan of all that) but does focus on a bit of romance not too much but again I am only one book into the series (just started a couple months ago)

I’m currently rereading the inheritance saga by Christopher paolini so I can read the ones I didn’t get around to when I was younger, it’s about dragons and elf’s and dwarves and such 🙂

      Good luck finding something!
