I typically read detective series and thrillers and some lighter fare, but I don't want to come across anything gruesome while recovering from surgery. As an example we saw the new Beetlejuice movie this weekend and there were a few gory parts that I normally wouldn't blink at but were just too much!
My last fave read was The Change by Kristen Miller. I've downloaded the latest Vera and can skip through anything that discusses a dead body. 🤪
But hoping for some light but well written contemporary fiction (not fantasy or sci fi) that will keep me occupied for a few weeks.
TIA!

We Ride Upon Sticks (not actually fantasy)
Sipsworth
The Spellman Files
Jana DeLeon Miss Fortune series
The first book that comes to mind is The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. I also read The Change and loved it.
For something funny you could try Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson. If you like it there is also a sequel. Both made me giggle throughout.
Also, Emily Henry is a fan fave for light fiction with romance. Book Lovers and Happy Place are both easy reads.
Hope you recover quickly, OP!
Janet Evonovich One for the Money
Larry’s Post Rapture Pet Sitting Service by Ellen King Rice
{{Sourdough by Robin Sloan}} fits the brief 🙂
Wishing you a speedy recovery ~
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!
What about a front-line war novel with no violence or gore because it’s paintball? Try *Private Owens: A George Owens Novel*. It’s got some funny scenes, too.
