hi guys, i’m looking for a new book/book series to get into that has queer characters whether they’re the main character or supporting cast. i haven’t read anything new in a long time so i’d love to get back into reading now that i have time.
i have read and enjoyed books like six of crows series, percy jackson series, the raven cycle series, and more but all of these are YA which doesn’t resonate with me as much as they did when i was younger.
essentially i’m looking for something in the genre of magical realism or mythology or mystery with queer representation that isn’t based around a group of teenagers. please help !!
i’m open to other genres too !! just no non-fiction please 🙂

Ethan Of Athos, by Lois McMaster Bujold. This is a stand-alone story in the larger _Vorkosigan Saga_ series.

The other suggestion that you will get a lot is _Gideon The Ninth_, by Tamsyn Muir. It was described by one reviewer as “Lesbian necromancers in space!”; to be honest, it was more about the necromancy than the lesbians, but they were still the MCs.

Potentially you may enjoy **The Scarlet Gospels, by Clive Barker**. Queer supporting cast. It’s set in the Hellraiser universe – you really don’t need to know anything about it except maybe the very basic premise (which you may well have already picked up via pop culture osmosis).
Have a look at Everina Maxwell’s two books, Winter’s Orbit and Ocean’s Echo. The first is a space opera set in a totally LGBTQ universe where everything goes, and is a mystery but also a romance. The second is more scifi adventure but still has two gay MCs.
It’s a standalone but Sistersong by Lucy Holland, is a fantastic retelling of the folk song: The Ballad of Two Sisters. Each of the siblings narrates, both the two sisters of the original song and a third sibling, who is a trans man. The tale encompasses the transition (as best he can in an pseudo-Arthurian/Middle Ages setting) of their brother as well as the dramatic events that occur between the sisters.
Heinz Hegers Men with the pink triangle. The story is told from the first person by a homosexual who was a Nazi concentration camp survivor.

{{The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J Klune}}. It’s YA, but I still think you’ll like it. It’s about an orphanage of magical kids, but the main character is the (adult, gay) case worker.

Also the Alpennia series by Heather Rose Jones. The first book is Daughter of Mystery. It’s f/f Fantasy of Manners.
KJ Charles writes m/m historical fiction. Try *Band Sinister* which is a standalone Regency Romance between a sheltered man and a man with the reputation of a dissulate rake. It’s got great dialogue, characters and tons of consent. KJ has bunches of other series from various time periods ranging from Regency to post WWI. She also has some fantasy. The first one in that series is *The Magpie Lord* which is often free on various eplatforms.
