Hey all,
Let’s just say i’ve been on some hard times mentally for a while and have been having trouble reading (i usually tear through 700+ page books).
I’m looking for a book that you think is comforting for anyone in a rough place mentally, whether it’s a nice distraction or something to help you feel understood/seen. I especially am inspired by stories of characters overcoming trauma.
As i hinted at i don’t mind if it’s more of a comforting escape or if the book will make me face some of the big emotions i’ve been feeling, i am okay with either. i would prefer something light page-wise since i’ve been having trouble; I’ve been taking quite a bit to get through Kazuo Ishiguro’s “A Pale View of Hills” for genuinely a few weeks now.
I don’t have a huge preference genre-wise but i am looking for fiction.

There’s a series by Elle Alexander about a small town brewery owner who solved mysteries while recovering from a divorce. It gets deeper emotionally at times but is a fluffy whodunit that I’ve found distracting.
Maybe The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna
*Pomegranate Soup* by Marsha Mehran.
The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yoko Ogawa
The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa
The People on Platform 5 by Clare Pooley
Sweet Bean Paste by Durian Sukegawa
The Miracles of the Namiya General Store by Keigo Higashino
Cannery Row by John Steinbeck
I just read The Raven Conspiracy by Michael Spratt. The most fun book I have read in 10 years – read it twice in 48 hours.
YOU CAN NOT FEEL BAD AFTER READING THIS BOOK!
you will find yourself smiling and laughing all the way though; although many reviewers were sad when they found out it is not a series. You might just read it again as I have LOL
A Man Called Ove
Some sad things do happen it but still, that book is just a comforting little hug
if you do not want even a little bit of sad stuff then perhaps House at the Cerulian Sea? It has a bit of magic, a bit of romance and reading it feels like cozying up with a hot mug of tea and bicuits!
