Looking for older books that feel cosy and coming of age in the same vein as Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, Ballet Shoes, etc. but with a male protagonist. I know this might be a difficult ask because of how much less domestic boys' lives were back then but I was curious to see if there were any recommendations.

    1. Maybe “Cold Sassy Tree” by Olive Ann Burns

Of course there’s also many works by Mark Twain

“The Story of a Bad Boy” by Thomas Aldrich is a semi-autobiographical novel about a boy growing up in 19th century New Hampshire. “Bad” is a bit strong, he’s more like a Little Rascals type of kid, with his group of friends.

The Penrod books by Booth Tarkington or Horatio Alger’s books

Johnny Tremain? The Horatio Hornblower books are set on ships, but not completely dissimilar. A few of Charles Dickens’ books might fit too.
