My (26F) friend (20M) has been wanting to start reading for a while now so I suggested we read something together to keep each other engaged and accountable.
I listen to lots of audiobooks at work and tend to gravitate towards longer, immersive mysteries but I'm thinking he needs something relatively short and easy.
I generally avoid YA but it might be a good place to start since he said the only books he's read was The Hunger Games back in highschool, but definitely not married to this idea if you have suggestions for other accessible works.
I asked what he normally likes in media and he said basically anything – horror, romance, adventure, dystopia, etc.
Ideally I'd like something we'll both enjoy but I'm happy to go out of my comfort zone to help him along – something great though to get him hooked and excited for more!
Thank you!!

Frankenstein could be a good shout , it’s short, it’s horror, it’s easy to read, but it’s also a classic and comes up in the lists of 100 books you must read lists all the time. It could give them confidence that they can manage these pieces of classic literature without throwing war and peace at them (which is great and you should read later)
“Child of God” -Comac Mccarthy. Is a truly heartwarming and compelling story.
Try out the YA books like Percy Jackson (Rick Riordan) or Artemis Fowl (Eoin Coiffer)
If you are into thriller you can try out Frederick Forsyth’s Day of the jackal- its a gripping fast read so will be good for a first time reader
