I have been forcing myself to read more this summer. I read The Secret History by Donna Tartt and really enjoyed it. After that I read The Stranger by Albert Camus, then reread the Great Gatsby and just finished the Catcher in the Rye. The Catcher in the Rye, the Stranger, and The Secret History were all amazing. As you can tell I tend to enjoy books with flawed or untrustworthy narrator’s. I haven’t read a book for pleasure before this summer in a very long time. Read a bit for AP lit last year but didn’t enjoy it all that much. I’m reading the picture of Dorian gray and not loving it but will likely push through a little longer. I’d love suggestions. Classic literature is appealing to me but I don’t want anything that’s gonna feel way too difficult to get through. Help! Pride and prejudice? Crime and punishment? East of Eden? How dense is Charles dickens? Ive heard Donna tartts writing be compared to his. Heard perfume by Patrick suskind is an interesting read as well.

East of Eden is one of my all time favorites. It’s long but the pace is good and it moves quickly.
Have you tried Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier?
Try to get through The Picture of Dorian Gray. It really picks up toward the latter half.
If you like flawed protagonists definitely put perfume on your tbr, it’s a great book
East of Eden is a near perfect book. That said, I think you should consider the Neapolitan novels by Elena Ferrante, beginning with My Brilliant Friend.
