Looking for a book with a bleak, dreary, wintry, rainy or stormy atmosphere on Audible.
Less than 10-12 hours, nothing graphic.
We like historical fiction, drama, intrigue/suspense/mystery, espionage, witty, British, adventures.
Something not set in modern times.
Something with good character development, no circle of suspects plot, not overcomplicated.
We tend to listen in 30-60 minutes increments over several days/weeks and can't keep track of too many characters. We have enjoyed Dickens (many of these are too long for our circumstances) and some other classics (King Solomon's Mines, Scarlet Pimpernel, Sherlock Holmes, Thirty Nine Steps) as well as some youth books (Fahrenheit 451, Moonfleet, Captain Grey, Indian in the Cupboard, Brian's Winter).
Overall, something well written that draws you in quickly and moves along well enough to keep you engaged. Not locked in to any of this other than not graphic. Just something that makes you want to listen and not feel like work to get through.
