I read the first line of *Lolita* and I had to close my eyes and say “Jesus fucking Christ”. I’ve only been able to read short bursts because it’s so disturbing, yet artfully done and thought-provoking. I was actually thinking of *American Psycho* next because they sound similar in the vibe (thought Lolita has far less banal clothing descriptions).
How High We Go In The Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu has some truly disturbing parts and is also a very thought provoking book.
Johnny Got his Gun by Dalton Trumbo
Sheepshagger by Niall Griffiths
The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things by JT Leroy
Lolita is pretty disturbing. And goes to very dark places. I still think it’s excellent.
