I'm working on a reading challenge and one of the prompts is "a second chance romance". I really don't care for romance. So, I'm looking for a different genre that kind of has the second chance romance bit in the background.
I'm good with most other genres. But I really enjoy fantasy and historical fiction.
Thanks!

The Golden Hour by Beatriz Williams. It’s historical fiction, set during WWII, and is partly about a woman trying to rescue her husband from the Germans. There’s a second chance romance in the background involving the husband’s parents.
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn also historical fiction. Partly set in WWII, partly later, it centers around some of the girls of Bletchley Park. There’s a bit of a second chance romance in it.
I don’t know if you have any interests in mysteries, but maybe you could try Murder at the Brightwell, the first in the Amory Ames mystery series.
It’s about an amateur detective in the 1930s. She’s estranged from her wealthy playboy husband, but over the course of the book (and the series) they find their way back to each other and become close again. But that is happening in the background while she solving murders.
Paladin of Souls by Lois McMaster Bujold. This is technically a sequel to The Curse of Chalion but you don’t need to read the original to understand this.
It’s a fantasy setting loosely based on medieval Spain and the plot starts with a forty year old widow trying to regain control of her life after a long illness then gets complicated when she runs into a sort of theological murder mystery.
