I love Ishiguro. I think he’s one of the best novelists out there and I’ve read and enjoyed everything he’s written and this is the last of his novels I have yet to finish.

Ok so I’m about a third of the way through it and it is feeling very, very long. I know this is considered his most difficult book but I’ve been finding it a slog and am considering throwing in the towel.

To those who’ve read it, am I wrong? Should I continue?

I read it many years ago. I remember feeling put off at first, it reminded me of an overly long Kafka imitation. But it slowly grew on me. By the end, I had completely changed my mind; I devoured the last quarter of the book.

I can’t say if it’s worth it for you personally, but I do think it’s a great novel and worth reading in general.

    2. This one is divisive. People seem to think it is either a massive failure or a masterpiece. I’m of the opinion it is a masterpiece. I love the dream logic of the world, and why (I think) it is employed.

But art that appeals to everyone is probably not very good art. If you feel like you are wasting your time, you should move on.
