Dark Fantasy, Female Protagonist Recommendation?

I'm searching for a dark fantasy book with a female protagonist. I recently read "The Book of Azrael" and it was okay… I just hate how every single fantasy book with a female protagonist then has a huge romantic focus. Like, why can't she just be her own person and discover things about herself on her own? Why is there always a male influence on her becoming "who she was destined to be"? So if anyone has a good recommendation without a romantic focus, I'd appreciate that so much.
