I want to get some books that I can read to my boyfriend (he doesn't read a lot but likes listening to me read. Plus it helps me with my stutter to read out loud) so we came up with general things we like and don't like in books.
First and foremost, probably the biggest thing: absolutely no sex scenes. They make me extremely uncomfortable.
Next, we prefer fantasy or just something that doesn't take place in our reality. This could be anything from medieval fantasy to futuristic scifi.
And the last thing: minimal – no romance. It's fine if there's some romance, but we'd prefer it to not be the main focal point of the book. At the most, we'd prefer it to be the B plot.
If you have any recommendations, thank you in advance.

You might enjoy A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore
It’s a funny story about a guy who becomes a soul collector (not quite the grim reaper).
No sex or romance in the story.
It’s almost that time of year to reread Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury! Also recommending a collection of short stories by Ray Bradbury. This is more like The Twilight Zone than actual fantasy, but The Martian Chronicles is sci-fi.
I am super disappointed in the recent allegations that have come to light about Neil Gaiman but I do think several of his books would be great to read out loud: Coraline, Neverwhere, and The Graveyard Book. (The Ocean at the End of the Lane has a sex scene that’s integral to the plot so I’m not recommending it.) Gaiman also has a Doctor Who short story that features the eleventh doctor.
