I read mountains beyond mountains by Tracy Kiddler a few years ago and it's still one of my favorite books. Would love suggestions for biographies of non- celebrities doing amazing things. It doesn't have to be public health based but I did enjoy learning about his work as well as his life. I also enjoyed the POV of following him on some of the remote visits! Not super interested in purely outdoor feats of strength or survival( I've read into thin air, into the wild, and touching the void, I liked them all but I want something with a little more humanity or where I'd learn something new)

    Thanks in advance!

    1. You might find Wangari Maathai’s memoir of interest, it’s called Unbowed.

I only read one Peter Matthiessen book, The Snow Leopard, but from what I heard some of his other nonfiction might work as well.

Bruce. Chatwin reinvented travel writing with his books In Patagonia and Song Lines, I think they would both work here.

As a public health book, look at Ghost Maps about the doctor who figured out Cholera was transmitted by water in mid 19th century London by mapping out illnesses and deaths in a process still used to this day to track epidemics.

MBM was spectacular, I never met PF, but I did spend a 4th July at his wife’s house in Rwanda. He’s really one of the greatest hero’s of the past 50 years.
