Since the beginning of the year my reading preferences have not really changed much. I've been reading a lot of science fiction, some contemporary/literary fiction and fantasy, and romantic wlw books (not necessarily romance genre). The upcoming five books on my shelf are also in these genres. I like books that have a philosophical element to them and I love lyrical prose, as well as strong thematic consistency. What are some great books outside the genres I normally read that you'd recommend to me?

Here's the list of books I read this year and my rating of them:
    – A Man Called Ove, 4.5/5
    – The Final Strife, 3.5/5
    – People We Meet On Vacation, 4.5/5
    – The Left Hand Of Darkness, 5/5
    – Nona the Ninth, 4/5
    – Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe, 4.5/5
    – Fingersmith, 5/5
    – Astrid Parker Doesn't Fail, 4/5
    – Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, 3.5/5
    – A Memory Called Empire and A Desolation Called Peace, both 5/5 favorites of the year so far
    – How To Kill Your Family, 2/5
    – Written in the Stars 4/5
    – Honey Girl, 4.5/5
    – An Unkindness of Ghosts, 3/5

I've got six books up next:
    – Ancillary Justice
    – Snow Crash
    – Neuromancer
    – Tipping the Velvet
    – Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep
    – The Dispossessed

I've collected 273 books on my recommendations list, so there's a realistic chance anything you'll recommend is a book I've already heard of, but that's fine, I can't choose from such a gigantic list either way…
