I'm a big war novel fan, and I just finished my last book. I've had my eyes on these two books for a while, both almost exactly the same price. Both books I have heard great things about. I am aware of the difficulty associated with Pynchon's….. style. Some of my favorite books are Lovecraft, so that won't be an issue.

P.S. I will read both eventually, but I need to buy one first.

Catch-22 for sure. I started GR; it was a difficult read, but at a certain point I gave myself permission to quit. You’ll probably figure out where that was if you read it. I thought Pynchon’s “V” was a fun ride.

    2. I may be the only person who did not like Catch-22, but I found it booooring. The repeated themes and explanations felt a bit pedantic.

Gravity’s Rainbow was long but always unexpected and periodically hilarious, like doubled over laughing hilarious. A great book. I won’t read it again, but I have re-read a few of the funniest parts. I will say that the last quarter or so of the book was a dark absurdist’s nightmare.
