I read the book a while back and don't remember how I felt about him but reading it again I kind of have a strange love-hate relationship with Jay Gatsby.
A part of me wants to idealize him and think of him as a dreamer who will do anything possible for love. And by the end of the book, given what happens, it is hard not to see him as some timeless romantic hero.
But another part of me thinks of him as a liar, criminal, self-obsessed, and just crazy, who does not care how his behavior affects other people as long as he gets what he wants.
The two views are too far apart that it makes it difficult for me to bring it together and make sense of it.

He’s great! It says so in the title.
He’s a douche.
