Very painful. This is the first book that honestly made me cry. 😢💔. May God’s peace be upon Afghanistan, upon the pure souls of the innocents, upon the progeny of persecuted sects, and upon the progeny born from the wombs of war. The first book I've read by Khaled Hosseini, and I can't wait to read the rest of his books.

I read this book for the first time on a backpacking trip years ago and wound up staying up all night to finish it. Hard to put all the feelings into words.
