Hi! I’m in the back half of my current book (“The Night She Disappeared” By Lisa Jewell) and I’m looking for a new read. I’m gonna describe the themes and vibes that appeal to me in books, and I’m hoping someone can point me somewhere good.

So, by far my favorite novel (and piece of fiction, TBH) is “It” by Stephen King. I read it every few years, and have an It themed tattoo. I love a bunch of misfits coming together to form a found family of sorts. Loved “The Dark Tower” for similar reasons.

I prefer genre fiction, and tend to prefer novels with external stakes: crime, dragons, monsters… whatever. Novels where the bulk of the action comes from interpersonal social tension are less my jam. So romance is largely out, if it’s the primary focus of the novel.

I also recently read the web series “Super Powereds” by Drew Hayes. It had some of the same appeal as “It”, with a group of misfits forming an ersatz family, but I also really enjoyed the progression and growth elements of that story. I also liked the optimistic and humanistic themes of that story.

Finally, I’ve been a big fan of doorstopper fantasy novels since high school (Wheel of Time, A Song of Ice and Fire, Malazan). So long books and long series are appealing.

So if you have knowledge of any books that check some of these boxes, I’d really appreciate suggestions. Thanks!!
