Used to read constantly. Books of all kinds. Really enjoyed Beloved by Toni Morrison. Haven’t read since prior to college because I only had time to read the required texts. I’m 2 years post degree now and have some time.

A bit about me: 26 female, stay at home mom, into health/fitness but don’t think I’d like books on the subject. Prefer mostly fiction but not opposed to other subjects. Have a degree in indigenous and American Indian studies so a bit burnt out on historical texts for now.

    1. Trying to narrow it down to your field of studies/interests, here are some books that I loved, all by Indigenous, Native American, First Nations, Métis or Inuit authors:

      * *Marrow Thieves* by Cherie Dimaline: YA dystopian novel that centres Indigenous youth. I read and thoroughly enjoyed it as an adult, and bawled my eyes out at the end
      * *Split Tooth* by Tanya Tagaq: a visceral novel, with some magical/poetic elements, about growing up & generational trauma
      * *Medicine Walk* by Richard Wagamese: quite sad and touching novel about death, grief, reconciliation & healing
      * *Sanaaq* by Mitiarjuk Nappaaluk: one of the first novels that was written in Inuktitut syllabics, the style is beautiful and resembles oral history tradition, which short chapters that tell the story of an Inuk family in the 20th century
      * *The Break* by katherena vermette: gripping, violent novel about different generations of women and their interconnected trauma
      * *Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants* by Robin Wall Kimmerer: a gorgeous non-fiction book about botany and Indigenous relationships to nature
