ISO books written by authors that reside outside of North America/Europe that share something about their countries’ culture/history. (fic/non-fic)

This is a bit of a ‘hard mode’ for the Read Around the World Challenge. I am looking for authors who did not immigrate to US or Britain before writing a book. I am looking for authors who still live in their respective countries and preferably are writing for the local audience.

Award recognition would be great. But I will also settle for local reviewers giving thumbs up for authenticity.

For example: Salman Rushdie would be a no. Haruki Murakami would be a yes.

Preferred genres scifi/fantasy/horror and non-fiction. But I realize beggars cannot be choosers so whatever you got. 🙂 Obviously needs to have an English translation.
