I don’t see it mentioned more often, I’m not sure if it’s underrated, but The Angel’s Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I fell in love with gothic fiction because of this book. I can’t wait to read the other 3 books in the series The Cemetery of Forgotten Books.

Rantanquero de Boom-Jing-Jing. I can’t even find evidence it was published outside a magazine serialization in the 1860s. It’s like if Monty Python did the Civil War. I know it’s not underrated, but The Road, by Cormac McCarthy is an awesome book
