(M.16) epistemology philosophy book recommendation
I’ve never read a philosophy book and I’m looking for one that’s epistemology or metaphysics, easy to read and explained in maybe a fun way or very engaging. Thanks
I have three radically different suggestions: 1) Insight by Bernard Lonergan. This is a very long and overall hard book, but it starts simple and goes slowly and builds up to the hard stuff. Even if you only read the first few chapters, you’ll get a lot of insight into some different areas of epistemology. 2) Introduction to Phenomenology by Sokolowski. This is not epistemology strictly speaking, but phenomenology is really important for understanding most of the thinking that was happening in Europe in the 20th century, philosophy-wise. 3) Hume’s Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding. This is an old book, so the language is difficult, but Hume lays out some basic epistemological principals really clearly.
