I’ve read Corinne by Rebecca Morrow three times now and I’m just so obsessed with it. I need a new fix. I will explain what makes me so obsessed and maybe some of you lovelies will have ideas on what else I would like.

I love what a damn grouch the female main character is. I love how she’s not described as incredibly beautiful (she also doesn’t do the thing where she claims she’s ugly but then every male character falls all over her).

love the backdrop of religious fundamentalism and how it affects how the characters see the world in every way. Family, sex, love, power. Our FMC is uncompromising in her atheism while also loving sooo many religious people. She also still holds some values from her upbringing despite being an atheist, which I found incredibly realistic.

the mmc is dreamy but he is not the hottest man in the world, not a shadow daddy or whatever. In fact for most of the story Corinne is in denial about finding him attractive at all. This reads SO REFRESHING TO ME. He’s got red flags and not just sexy ones. He’s an electrician and not a billionaire.

When the characters fight, the fights are actually constructive. The relationship builds very slowly over time with much longing and pining. It feels like a real, healthy relationship between two people who cannot stand to be apart from each other. There’s very little therapy talk, and I find that a lot of modern published authors will insert therapy concepts into their work in a way that doesn’t make a lot of sense.

The sex scenes in this book are so real they feel like they are actually happening. The details so salient. They are actually awkward at times, with the communication issues and pitfalls that real people have when having sex. Especially considering both characters are raised super fundimentalist… it affects them. But they are still blazing freaking hot.
Would be totally happy with books featuring lgbtq couples in this same vein as well! Doesn’t have to be all about religious trauma… that’s a big part of the draw for me but I’d also just be happy with a book that doesn’t have ridiculously attractive characters that are billionaires or whatever in it. I like sex scenes, but it is not a must.
Thank youuu! 😀
