Hey there! I've been chomping at the bit for a book that feels like a Victorian Haunted house. It doesn't necessarily have to be historical fiction – it could absolutely be modern day, but I really want the old spooky house feel. Things that go bump in the night, dark twisting hallways, maybe throw in some creepy children and a husband that thinks his wife is just "hysterical".

Some books I've read that at least partially fit this vibe, scored out of 10 by how close it was to what I'm looking for:

    • The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson (9/10)

    • The Shining by Stephen King (7/10)

    • Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman (7/10)

    • Episode 13 by Craig Dilouie (3/10)

    • Grey Dog by Elliot Gish (9/10)

    • A House With Good Bones by T Kingfisher (5/10)

    • The Invited by Jennifer McMahon (5/10)

    • The Amityville Horror by Jay Anson (3/10)

    • How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix (5/10)

    • Twelve Nights at Rotter House by JW Ocker (7/10)

    • The Winter People by Jennifer McMahon
      (3/10)

I want a slow, grisly descent into madness. Bonus points for feminist undertones!
