I am 17 years old and a Christian and finding books is just really hard for me. I really like historical fiction and mystery!
My problem is that with YA it seems that everything is always about romance and sex. I just dont like reading that. I really dont mind a sweet romance, for example little women and Anne of Green Gables, but sometimes these more modern books just get too much for me. I recently read the Paper Girl of Paris and really enjoyed it but it did have a small scene that was them having sex and that just made me not like it quite as well! I also like when there is an actual plot to the book besides the romance. I don’t want to read a romance book, but if there is romance in the book, I’m fine with that, if that makes any sense! I am ok with the book recs not being YA or mature just not racey. I also don’t mind reading a book marketed for middle schoolers if it is a good book with quality writing!
I’m not a big fan of fantasy but at the same time I really Enjoyed Harry Potter wouldn’t mind reading a book that has the same vibe. I think the reason I enjoyed Harry Potter so much was Because it felt very cozy and fall themed so if any of your book recommendations or cozy or autumn themed, that would be absolutely fantastic!

I enjoyed the Elm Creek Quilts series by Jennifer Chiaverini and the Harper’s Emporium series by Rosie Clarke. The Silk Weaver by Liz Trenow.
The Justin DeQuincy series by Sharon Kay Penman might be good, it’s set during medieval England. I love her other books too, but they’re huge, so it might be worth trying this shorter series first anyway, to get a feel for her style.
I’ve only read the first few Homer Kelly mysteries by Jane Langton, but so far I really like them. They’re set in Massachusetts and reference New England history a lot, especially the first book, and she has kind of a dry sense of humor.

Honestly im the same and I LOVED The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee. Historical, set around 1890. It’s about this orphaned girl who lives with her father Old Gin. Not biologically her father, but he adopted her. She is a Chinese girl living in atlanta and works as a hat maker. She loves writing but has to keep it to herself as to not draw attention. After certain events unfold, she finds herself being the secret columnist for a newspaper because if they dont make sales, she loses her secret home; the the forgotten basement servant quarters she’s been secretly living in with Old Gin. During this whole story she is trying to balance concealing her hidden identity while also trying to discover her own place in this world as she tries to track down her father. Then there is this big twist in the end. I loved it. 10/10 a book i could read on repeat.
