I’m trying to get back into reading, it’s been pretty difficult for me for multiple reasons. But I want to get back into it and start reading what I like.
I can read more “complex” books but I prefer simpler ones for ease of getting back into it. So don’t let a reading level prevent you from recommending a book.
I’d love to read books that have the same vibe and atmosphere as Dead Space, it’s one of my all time favorite games and what kick stated me into horror and especially body horror.
Another game that has really kicked me into a creative head space is Dredge, an eldritch horror fishing game. I have tried to read that genre before but I’ve found the format most are written in to be too slow for me. But something about how Dredge is written has me very hooked and craving to read more descriptors about the horrors of the deep corrupting the life around it.
And lastly I adore DnD but a lot of high fantasy are harder for me to get invested in because of how slow they are to start. I know the flair is horror but consider this a bonus!
Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated! Thank you :]

I’m not sure if this is exactly what you’re after (I haven’t played dead space) but the Warhammer 40k books are excellent (in a pulpy, definitely-not-highbrow-lit sort of way). It can be quite intimidating knowing where to start when you look at the total body of work but a great intro is Dan Abnett’s inquisition series, starting with ‘Eisenhorn’. No previous 40k knowledge required, and it reads like an action movie. Plus there’s definitely a spooky, eldrich side to 40k
Dungeon Crawler Carl, while not horror is a fast paced litrpg with all sorts of creatures that youd find in DnD it’s a lot of fun at surface level but can be deep dived for greater meaning. The writing is easy to follow but the story doesn’t lack any depth because of this.
