hi! I’ve really been in the mood for a new dragon book for me to sink my teeth into; however, there are several what I would consider fairly common tropes that I do not want in my Dragon book. firstly, no dragon riders I don’t know why, but I’ve always thought of the idea of a human riding a dragon to be rather silly, and so I would prefer a dragon book where all of the dragons are strong and independent, and do not rely on people. Secondly, I do want a dragon book where the dragons are intelligent magical or thinking beings that are not just the obstacle to the protagonist. Thirdly, I do not enjoy reading young adult fiction adult books with adult themes and writing are appreciated.
some portrayals of dragons I’ve enjoyed:
Ma”lazan book of the fallen by Stephen Erickson
The realm of the elderlings by Robin Hobb
The priory of the orange tree by Samantha, Shannon
The summer dragon by Todd Lockwood
A most likely incomplete list of dragon books I have read
temeraire by Naomi Novak
inheritance cycle by Christopher Paolini
guards guards by Terry Pratchett
dragon riders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey
fourth wing by Rebekah Yaros
to shape a dragons breath by monoquill, blackgoose
I’m afraid you’ve got dragons by Robert Siegel
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
Wings of fire by Tui t Sutherland
dragon slippers by Jessica day George
tooth and claw by jo walton
m
rage of dragons by evan winters
A day of fallen night by Samantha, Shannon

Well, the prequel to Priory of the Orange Tree was released last year – A Day of Fallen Night. Well worth a read if you’ve enjoyed the Priory (I’d argue it’s a better book too)
