I know it’s cringe to to like holden caulfield but I am really interested in reading books similar to catcher in the rye..in the sense that the character is really obnoxious and kind of an ass? just super pretentious and lonely? (also better if he’s dealing with sexuality issues)
so…. any recs? the only requirements I’m looking for are:
1. male protagonist
2. young, like ages 14-30
3. mentally ill …or just constantly irritated
4. relatable?
5. lonely? hates everyone?
6. bonus points if dealing with a sexuality and/or religious dilemma
7. extra extra bonus points if the character goes to a private/religious/all boys school

“The Rachel Papers” by Martin Amis is basically that entire category in narrative form.
