The Dr Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths and the Dr Gideon Oliver series by Aaron Elkins are both about forensic anthropologists (or anthropologists with expertise in old bones who work on criminal cases as needed). Gideon Oliver works with at least one recurring character in the FBI. Ruth Galloway is in the UK and works with a local police force.

Bones was actually based on books by Kathy Reichs. First book is {{ Deja Dead by Reichs }}. There are at least 20 Temperance Brennan books!
