An example would be a book called "A Town Like Alice".

The narrator is a mutual friend of the two main characters in the book. The first chapter began in 1st person on how the narrator met the main character. Then, the rest of the book is the story of the main characters told by the narrator, which kinda makes it feel like its in 3rd person, but at some parts the narrator makes personal comment here and there which reminded you back that it is in 1st person.

Interesting narrative style. I dont know what it's called. Any other books like this?

    1. I just read The Ferryman by Justin Cronin. Some chapters are in the first person of the main character while others are narrated in the third person. It was well balanced throughout the novel.

    2. I think this is called a “vanishing narrator” — I also like this style! A classic example is *The Great Gatsby* by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Another one that comes to mind is *The Book Thief* by Markus Zusak; the narrator is Death, telling the story of a girl named Liesel living in Nazi Germany.
