Even if it’s something that’s not yet as grand but shows potential, you can include it.

“Grand” doesn’t just have to mean world-building or lore. It can refer to a series that is ambitious in whatever aspect it excels at.

Some of these may not be grand yet but they have the potential to be grand in the aspects they focus on. But based on what I’ve heard from others or seen in media, here are a few examples:

    1. Re:Zero (Web novel)
    2. Lord of the mysteries (Web novel)
    3. Malazan (Novel)
    4. Tower of God (Manhwa)
    5. A song of ice and fire (Novel)
    6. Wheel of time (Novel)
    7. One piece (manga)

A Song of Ice and Fire was amazing, and while I think I was a bigger fan of the way Game of Thrones ended I’d still hope George RR Martin would do better if he does finish the series.

That said I still recommend Dune first and foremost if anyone wants a dark political drama with fantastical elements unless you absolutely must have fantasy over sci-fi.

Another great series that definitely fits grand in both scope and quality is His Dark Materials.

Also you can’t forget Lord of the Rings

    2. Star Maker by Olaf Stapledon covers the entire story of the multiverse in its pages, from the first stirrings of the nebulae to the death of the galaxies, and glimpsing the many other universes being created after the end of ours.

    3. Shakespeare’s ANTONY & CLEOPATRA is epic, about the final collapse of Old Rome into Empire, and the deaths of two legendary figures which hastens its fall.

There’s love, sex, politics, magic, war — including sea battles! — betrayal, parties, and drunken revelry.

It ends with a woman choosing to spare herself the indignity of being paraded before her enemies in chains.
