I love fairy tales, myths, gothic stories, and books that ultimately have positive or hopeful elements even in the face of extreme hardship. Neil Gaiman has been a favorite of mine for a long time and his books have felt like a bit of a “literary home” for me to return to. Now I’m homeless and looking for something new.
Other authors I enjoy are Shirley Jackson, Flannery O’Connor, Tolkien, and Oscar Wilde. I like the Harry Potter books even though I’m not fond of Rowling herself or her other books. And Calvin and Hobbes is my favorite ever comic.
Thank you everyone.

You might like Madeline Miller’s *Circe* and *Song of Achilles*. They’re a bit dark at times, but hope plays a crucial role in both novels.
