I just finished the book and I need to somewhere to release. I have never encountered a story like this before, where the prose can sometimes be as soft and mystical as a falling feather but then, two sentences later, cut so deep and so precise it felt like a scalpel grazed the very linings of my heart. Every page was so heartfelt and so raw that I couldn't control the emotions it evoked from me. I know I'm being dramatic but goddamnit, after what the book led me through, I feel like I deserve it somewhat.

I knew there would be heavy topics but there are times I had to put the book down for a day or two because it got too dark. I felt like the book, with its subject matter, wounds you but then applies a layer of salve immediately. It's like the way she narrates the event softens the blow, but at the same time, it makes the impact even more profound.

God, I just want to reread it from the start immediately but my eyes are too weary from crying at the moment.

Betty by Tiffany McDaniel is a gut-punch of a read that makes you want to curl up and never leave the world she’s crafted.
