hi all, i‘m a second generation immigrant on my mom‘s side (slovakia) which is why i am looking for slovak literature that is either
1) culturally significant and will teach me more about slovakia‘s history (eg. about life in rural slovakia, under communism, pre- or post fall of the berlin wall etc) – in this case i would prefer reading english or german translations (my slovak is limited)
or 2) diaspora literature. i thought of this while reading „swimming in the dark“ by polish author tomasz jedrowski because his use of polish words and description of polish food and rituals and politics paint his yearning for the country so clearly. i would love to read something similar by a slovak author because jedrowski‘s book made me feel understood in my experience.
thank you all in advance!!
TL;DR looking for culturally significant slovak books or slovak diaspora literature (in english/german)
