Hamnet is great. Wolf Hall. Pachinko. All the Light we Cannot See. Any specific sub-genre? There’s so many good ones.

Historical fantasy? **Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell** by Susanna Clarke is one of my favorite books. **His Majesty’s Dragon** by Naomi Novik is another great pick. They’re both set during the Napoleonic Wars—the first one is about English Magic awakening from a long slumber, the other is about a Navy captain who is forced to join the Aerial Corps when a dragon imprints on him.
I love “Strange and Norrell” so much because there are some minor antagonists but no BBEG. Instead, the plot is driven by factions of good guys working at cross purposes.
