I notice that English books are heavier than their Japanese counterparts (also accounting for their size differences) since Japanese books are for the most part around B5 or B6 JIS. In terms of the text being formatted vertically on the spine, it remains legible in Japanese despite it being written vertically (as in English they have to rotate the text sideways or adjust the formatting) just to fit onto the book's spine.

I mean, why are books in English larger despite the equivalent argument saying that: "bigger books are more substantial" is there really a equivalent term for Tankobon or Bunko in English when talking about hardcover vs paperback books? If you compared the weight of carrying a Japanese book vs an English one in hardcover or paperback, which one is lighter when accounting for their size differences?
