I bought her collection of stories and have read Hour of the Star and am absolutely going to buy more of her books. I read Hour of the Star in one sitting because it was a light read but it was both reminiscent of things that I have read and comforted me yet unlike any of what I have seen other writers do with these ideas and settings. As if I was being driven down the same road in the same car with the same view but a different driver who didn't care that I already knew these things, it was her road to drive me down and her world to show me. If that makes sense(?). The only word I can think of to describe her writing is impressive, as in you can tell when writers spend years studying how to become a good writer or unashamedly, or with shame, show their dedications to previous writers and books, Clarice just has a natural gift for telling us about her characters and she never for a second hid her own talent away from herself, she knows exactly what she is capable of and dedicates it all to her characters. I'm still in the middle of other books I want to knock out but as soon as I get back to her I'll see more of what she can do.
